Camera hire in Birmingham and the West Midlands

After a great deal on camera hire in Birmingham and the West Midlands? Then you’ve come to the right place. West is best when it comes to filmmaking. There’s a lot more going on in the much-maligned Black Country than you may think.

Lord of the Bull Rings

Think of the West Midlands and you might not think beyond Birmingham, the Bull Ring, shopping centres and concrete 60s architecture. For a long time, it was hard to escape that image but Birmingham and the West Midlands has been undergoing somewhat of a renaissance recently. There’s been a significant regeneration of Birmingham’s city centre and you shouldn’t forget the region is home five (yes five!) Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the Shropshire Hills, Malvern Hills, Cannock Chase, Wye Valley and parts of the Cotswolds. If that wasn’t enough it also boasts a UNESCO world heritage site at Ironbridge Gorge. The region is made up of six counties; Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire. Whether you’re after modern cityscapes, crumbling urban landscapes, period architecture or cracking countryside - you will find it all in the West Midlands.  This is the region that inspired Tolkien.

Perfect for Period projects - any period

With such diversity available, filmmaking in the West Midlands has rather bucked the trend in an area commonly associated with economic decline. Filmmaking, from TV dramas, like the recent WP 56c on BBC, to big budget Hollywood movies like Atonement, have all used the area as key locations. Other notable films made here have been; Spielberg's latest movie, Ready Player One, filmed in Birmingham, the original Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe series, used the much of the Shropshire countryside as Narina. The Oscar-winning, Howards End, was filmed in and around Ludlow. It’s because of this filming heritage that Peaky Blinders creator, Steven Knight, is championing a new six studio development for the area.

The West Midlands has a lot more to offer, and has played a much bigger role in our film history then you may have thought. Due to its central location, there are already a few large rental facilities in the area, acting as a hub for the entire central region. But, with so many filmmakers out there we’re sure you can find what you need even closer to home. We think this region is going to be one of the most dynamic communities on MyKitPlace.
